Acid phosphatase-Positive Granules in Purkinje Cells of Cerebellum

Abstract

Using the cerebellum of adult rats (220-240 gm), acid phosphatase (ACP)positive granules and PAS-positive granules in Purkinje cells were studied histochemically and statistically,
1. ACP-positive granules were nearly equal to PAS-positive granules in their size, form, and distribution. Histochemical results may indicate that PASpositive granules in Purkinje cells are ACP-active lysosome.
2. Average number of ACP-positive granules in Purkinje cell was 9.8¡¾0.49, whereas that of PAS-positive granules was 8.6¡¾0.41.
The difference of mean value calculated was statistically non significant(0.1 >p X0.05).
The results were discussed in relation to the difference of ACP-positive granules, PAS-positive granules, and formation of granules in Purkinje cells.
